Sun Safety at Arden Early Learning Airlie Beach Centre

When it comes to protecting our little ones in tropical Queensland, sun safety isn’t just important; it’s essential. At Arden Early Learning Airlie Beach Centre, we take sun protection seriously, ensuring every child enjoys outdoor play whilst staying safe under our beautiful Queensland sun.

Our Sun Smart Approach

Located in the stunning Whitsundays region, our centre follows strict sun safety protocols year-round. We understand that Queensland’s UV levels can be extreme, particularly during peak hours, which is why we’ve implemented comprehensive sun protection measures.

What We Do Daily:

  • Shade First: Our outdoor play areas feature extensive shade structures and natural shade from trees

  • Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, Slide: We follow the Cancer Council’s five-step sun protection method

  • Sun-safe clothing: Children wear hats (broad-brimmed or legionnaire style) and sun-protective clothing

  • SPF 50+ sunscreen: Applied 20 minutes before outdoor play and reapplied every two hours

  • Timed outdoor play: We schedule activities to avoid peak UV times (10am-3pm when possible)

Teaching Sun Safety From an Early Age

Our educators integrate sun safety into daily learning, helping children develop lifelong habits. Through stories, songs, and role play, we make sun protection fun and engaging for even our youngest learners.
